These beads were used in the early fur trade as an important commodity because they were in great demand and easily packed and transported. The pony bead was first introduced to Indians by the French explorers in the early 17th century and were immediatley popular and well suited for decorating Indian garments. These beads are great for early period beadwork, necklaces, etc.
